During Paris fashion week the whole city comes to life with a buzz and there are literally dozens of fashion shows held at venues all across Paris.
The French have always been at the forefront of fashion, with most of the greatest couturiers either having been trained in France or being French, but it is not all about grand dresses etc… Fashion is also about what ordinary people choose to wear. French people choose their clothes because they like their style and their quality rather than because some magazine or other has decided on what is “the” skirt, “the” shoes, or “the” accessories you have to buy to be up to the minute. They avoid excesses, bizarre outfits, clashing or strident colours and things that are in your face. They have a natural flair for the small twist which makes an outfit distinctive or classy, a scarf , a belt, or a small detail that will have its own cachet and will make all the difference.
So the fact stands that France is by excellence the leader in the design and the know-how of fashion accessories. Names such as Ralph Lauren, GUESS, DKNY, Cavallaro, Abercrombie & Fitch and Burberry speak for themselves! French designers set the trend and that’s a fact.
